Year of the Horse: 50th Anniversary Pony Drive

Ok, so we admit it. We sort of jumped the gun on all this “Year of the Horse” hullabaloo. Luckily, today is the day. It’s the official start of the Chinese Lunar New Year, which means we can milk it for our 2015 Mustang series all we want.

For example, The Mustang Club of America announced last week that it will be getting in on the 50th Anniversary festivities by repeating its Mustang caravan adventure. The Pony Drive will begin in Norman, Oklahoma, and then diverge, with one herd heading to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and the other group driving to the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The MCA sponsors the Pony Drive so that Mustang enthusiasts will have an opportunity to come together and share their stories of the road, rekindling old friendships and forging new ones as they gallop across the continent. The Las Vegas caravan makes stops in Amarillo, Albuquerque, and Flagstaff. Charlotte’s contingent will stop over in Little Rock, Nashville, and Asheville.

Event organizers are hoping for a large turnout, and they are looking to have examples of models from all fifty years of the Mustang’s life. The Pony Drive will kick off on Sunday, April 13,and last until the following Sunday.

For a tentative itinerary, see the article on Autoweek. If you want more information on the Pony Drive itself or how to join up, visit the Mustang Club of America’s official website, or the Mustang 50th Birthday Celebration website.
