The 2015 Mustang has been unveiled, and was it ever worth the wait.
With what many are hailing as the most important design of the iconic ponycar since its original iteration in 1964, Ford has delivered a stunning testament to American engineering. The new Mustang is striking from a distance and no less impressive up close. Motor Trend says, “It has the presence of a soldier … Ready to attack.” It’s muscular without being bulky, capturing the raw power of its heritage while fusing that with the expectations of a modern, global car.
And global appeal is definitely a goal. As Autoweek points out, the Mustang already has worldwide recognition, having been featured in myriad pop songs and movies, and amassing more than five million likes on Facebook. With a cult following in parts of Europe and Asia plus the growing markets in Brazil and China, the 2015 model is fixing to be as well traveled as its predecessors.
It takes more than a name for the world at large to accept the Mustang, though. For the first time, the team in Dearborn have fitted their stallion with independent rear suspension, which Car and Driver reports is based on the “integral link” system found in the Ford Fusion. In addition to the 3.7-liter V-6 and the 5.0-liter V-8, the Mustang will also be available with an all-new EcoBoost 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, capable of 305 hp that outmatches the V-6. Engineers also say that the EcoBoost engine will also give this model the best fuel economy of those three options.
The interior will make an aviator feel at home, with a high-end finish that will make for a very comfortable drive. Ford has at last brought MyFordTouch to the Mustang’s interface, along with blind-spot monitoring technology and adaptive cruise control. Visibility has been improved in the redesign, and remote start, keyless entry, and a push-button starter are all welcome updates, too.
