The Ford Explorer has long been one of the most popular vehicles on the road. Few SUVs offer the practicality, comfort, and economy of this venerable nameplate. With the 2016 model year, Ford has given the Explorer a thorough design update.
Changes start in the rear with a brand new liftgate, new taillights, and new exhaust tips. Providing more than just function, the available powered liftgate can open hands free just by waving your foot under the bumper with the key in your pocket.
Around front, the grille has been redesigned, and the headlamps have also been refreshed with new LED daytime running lights. Optional foglamps also take on a new shape, and the hood has been re-sculpted.
Not to detract from the Explorer’s off-road ability, the 2016 model sports five all-new wheel designs. Customers will also be glad to learn about five brand-new color options, including Caribou, Guard, Blue Jeans, Bronze Fire, and Ruby Red.
Families looking for a more refined experience can opt for the all-new Platinum trim, which features only the most luxurious options. Enjoy premium sterling-silver painted front and rear skid-plates, a distinctive satin-chrome finish on the grille, and a leather-wrapped instrument panel. You’ll never want to sit in another car again after you’ve felt the Nirvana leather-trimmed Medium Soft Ceramic seats, complete with quilted bolsters and contrast stitching. Real aluminum and brown ash swirl wood appliques round out the cabin, along with a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel.
The 2016 Ford Explorer makes good on an impressive tradition, and the all-new Platinum trim elevates this model to a previously unknown premium value. Bear in mind, we haven’t even talked about the new technology incorporated into the newest model.
