Leith Ford would like to congratulate the next Chief Executive Officer of Ford Motor Company, Mark Fields, on his appointment. Fields will be taking over for Alan Mulally when he retires July 1.
Mulally, who is 68 years old, has guided the company for the past eight years. It was thanks to his leadership that Ford withstood the recent economic downturn, and since then the brand has posted a profit for 19 straight quarters. We all owe a great deal of thanks to Alan for uniting the company worldwide under the One Ford plan.
He also played a huge role in securing a smooth transition of leadership. From the official press release:
“From the first day we discussed Ford’s transformation eight years ago, Alan and I agreed that developing the next generation of leaders and ensuring an orderly CEO succession were among our highest priorities,” Executive Chairman Bill Ford said. “Mark has transformed several of our operations around the world into much stronger businesses during his 25 years at Ford. Now, Mark is ready to lead our company into the future as CEO.”
Mark Fields is 53 and has been the Chief Operating Officer since December of 2012. Part of his job since then has been leading the company’s weekly Business Plan Review meeting, something started by Mulally to monitor the progress of the One Ford plan and discuss the global business environment. Previously, Fields had roles transforming the company’s business in North and South America, as well as in Europe.

We at Leith Ford are excited to maintain our place in the company of Ford as we continue moving toward a One Ford world and a One Ford future for all. Congratulations again to Mark Fields and a job well done to Alan Mulally.
